You can't hold a model accountable, so a person makes the call. These decisions are a small share of any job. They are also the share that matters most. That is where people stay.

With AI on the routine, a single operator handles what used to take a team. So people have more time now? In practice, no. Economists have a name for this: the Jevons paradox. When the steam engine got more efficient, Britain burned more coal, not less, because cheap power found a thousand new uses. Operational work is going the same way. When a task costs a tenth of what it did, you don't do a tenth of the tasks. You do the ten things you could never afford to.
